Mary Kate has worked for more than 10 years as a dance educator across many genres, including contemporary, jazz, modern, ballet, and Irish dancing. She specializes in teaching contemporary dance at the university level. She has taught at the university-level programs of Balettakademien Stockholm and Balettakademien Gothenburg (Sweden), Montclair State University (New Jersey), and Cape Academy of Performing Arts (South Africa). Mary Kate currently teaches full-time at the Professional School of Dance at Athens Conservatoire (Ωδείον Αθηνών) in Athens, Greece. She also teaches jazz dance for theater students at New York Acting Studio in central Athens.
Mary Kate taught kids and teenagers in New York City and the surrounding area full-time for many years, including in the School at Peridance’s pre-professional training program. Mary Kate was the School Director of Viksjöforsbaletten (Sweden) for the Fall 2017 semester, working with children ages 4 up through adults. She continues to teach in professional, pre-professional, and outreach settings internationally.
Mary Kate believes strongly in the power of dance as a tool for positive change. She has worked with dance in refugee camps and programs as well as in small rural communities without easy access to dance and art education with Ehrstrand Dance Collective. Mary Kate has taught and choreographed in Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, Greece, Italy, Albania, Japan, Mexico, USA, Taiwan, and South Africa.
